We all have Mental Health: A New Type of Tailored Therapy Programme
The Mental Health Continuum
We all have mental health. To understand ours in our current life context we can consider that our mental health is on this continuum that ranges from good mental health and wellness at one end to poor mental health and illness at the other....
Mental Health is fluid, meaning we can move along this scale depending upon how stressed we are in life at the moment.
Gravy Banana Mental Health Services have a range of tailored therapy programmes that have been uniquely designed to support people across the whole range of this continuum, based on the particular mental health needs at each stage.
You will not have seen services like ours before, therefore this short blog has been written for people who want to understand what services are available in more detail and how we can help. This blog starts with an explanation of the 3 main types of Therapy Programmes at Gravy Banana and their different aims. Then, more detail is given about each stage on the continuum to help you understand where you might currently be.

STAGES ON THE CONTINUUM:
If you consider yourself to generally be excelling in life at the moment then you are highly likely to have mental wellness and are coping very well with stress. Your life is also highly likely to have some, if not all of the following qualities:
Generally cheerful and joyful, solution focussed with a clear vision of what you want and where you want to be which fits with a strong sense of purpose and/or legacy for your life. You generally trust people. You are energetic, creative and optimistic, looking forward to the future with excitement. Your role/job satisfaction and performance will be high and you will be experiencing high levels of power over your decisions. You are likely to be prioritising sleep and recovery and are fully realising your potential, actively seeking connections and experiencing prolonged periods of "flow" - which is intense engagement.
Our therapy programme for people at this stage is targeted at people who want to invest in maintaining their wellness and want to increase their confidence to realise even bigger goals for themselves.
If you consider yourself to be thriving in life at the moment it is very likely that you have mental wellness and are coping well with stress. You will likely be experiencing some, if not all of the following:
A stable mood which is generally positive and with some normal variations. You will be feeling generally calm or in control and you will generally have good levels of confidence. You will know what you want in life and will be functioning well or normally in your job/roles with high levels of motivation, sleeping well and eating reasonably healthily. If your life generally feels unsettled at the moment, then this is likely a sign that your stress levels are increasing and you are not completely mentally well right now.
You are still very likely in this stage to feel generally confident that you can cope with the stress, particularly if you know it’s not going to last for long or you can see a way through it. If you are in the "unsettled" stage on the continuum, you are likely to experience some if not all of the following:
Feeling worried and nervous or on edge. Getting easily irritated, feeling frustrated and doubting yourself. You are likely focusing on the needs of others at the expense of your own and feeling sad or gloomy. Often people in this stage will feel tired and have a high sugar diet or give in to regular sugar cravings in response to stress. You may also have noticed that you are generally distracted and have difficulty concentrating as well as decreased social activity or loss of interest in socialising.
Our therapy programme for this stage is targeted at people who want to improve their wellness and increase their confidence that they can cope with the stress in their life and who want to get themselves strongly into mental wellness.
If your life feels like a struggle at the moment, then it is likely that you a feeling stressed and are losing confidence that you can cope with this stress. You might be finding it hard to see a way through it. If you are in this stage at the moment, you are likely to be experiencing some if not all of the following:

Also, poor concentration and easily distracted. Sometimes feeling numb or having little pleasure or interest in activities. Sleep is likely to be of poor quality or broken. Likely increased drug and or alcohol use.
Our therapy programme for this stage is targeted at people who want to reduce their symptoms of mental illness and increase their confidence that they can cope with the stress in their life. It is also targeted to people who want to become mentally well, even if they cannot yet visualise how to do it.
If your life has been a real struggle for some time and you are overwhelmed with stress, and have very little confidence that you can cope or see a way through, then your mental health has likely become problematic. If you are at this stage on the continuum, you are likely to be experiencing some if not all of the following:
Feeling very anxious and have a low mood that you can’t shake. Likely absenteeism from work or your roles. Likely sickness and physical pains. Isolation from others and very poor sleep. Likely weight loss or weight gain. Likely heavy drug and or alcohol use.
Our therapy programme for this stage is targeted at people who want to reduce their symptoms of mental illness that they may have had for some time and people who want their life to be different and want to make changes, even if they currently have no confidence that this can be done.
Your mental health is considered to be in crisis when you are so completely overwhelmed with stress and you have absolutely no confidence that your life can be different or see a way through it. If you are at this stage on the continuum, you are likely experiencing some if not all of the following:
Highly paranoid and intense feelings of hopelessness and helplessness. Likely self-harm or aggressive behaviour. Likely Suicidal ideation and or intent. Frequent dissociation (losing chunks of time) and feelings of depersonalisation and derealisation (feeling outside of your own body and like things don’t seem real). You might also likely to be experiencing a loss of income or housing and struggling to get your basic needs met such as safety, shelter and food. You are likely to have little or no support and generally no trust in others and sometimes altered perceptions of reality, hearing or seeing things that aren’t there.
Our therapy programme for this stage is targeted at people who want their life to be different.
